Serhat Karakayalı

ist Professor für Migration and Mobility Studies an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. Karakayali ist Soziologe und leitete die Abteilung Migration am Deutschen Zentrum für Integrations- und Migrationsforschung (DeZIM). Am Berliner Institut für Integrations- und Migrationsforschung (BIM) hat er unter anderem eine Studie zum ehrenamtlichen Engagement für Geflüchtete und zu kosmopolitischen Konzepten der Solidarität durchgeführt. An der HU Berlin leitet Karakayali derzeit zwei Projekte zu Migration und Gewerkschaften und darüber hinaus eine am BIM angesiedelte Einstein-Forscher_innengruppe zu Migration und Diaspora. Außerdem ist er in den Aufbau einer Plattform (MERGE) involviert, die Forscher_innen aus dem „Mittleren Osten“ vernetzen soll, die zu Migration, Diaspora und Flucht arbeiten.

He was fellow researcher in the project Transit Migration based at the University of Frankfurt, Department for Cultural Anthropology. He currently works on Social Movement Unionism in Europe; postfordist Hegemony and Modernism, Urbanism and Migration in the postcolonial context.
