Dissemblage & Insertion

„Dissemblage“ sings about unruly assemblages and about the cartoon character from the Frenkel Brothers’ films, Mish Mish Effendi, named after the apricot. The insertion traces the etymology of apricot—its migration across eras, pronunciations, dialects, translations, and mix-ups around the Mediterranean—and continues this migration into the rootless auditory etymology of mishmish. From Latin via Italian, Spanish, Catalan, French, Arabic, Levantine Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, Byzantine Greek, Cypriot Greek, and Maltese all the way to the English mishmash.
